I would be happy for Brian to inform me of exactly where on the depot this is, as I never see that batch of IU's 024035 - 038 when I I'm on that hill! I do understand, 037/038 are permanently inside but still..

I have now seen the unnumbered 040, up on the head shunt and I believe 041 is non existent, so this will need to be updated on the records please Ben..

As far as I know this one is still stored in the compound with the class 60s.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/alphamikeaviationphotography/14145448409/ You can see it right at the bottom left of this shot from 2014, as far as I know it tends to be around that area normally.

Ahh right, a clue as to where abouts in the compound? Near to a condemned vehicle or which Class 60?

  • 23 April 2020 - Greg Hartle

Right.... yea that's a tricky spot near 041989 and the paintshop, a near impossibility to see from both the hill and back entrance. You can see the fish van easily from the rear but it also blocks seeing anything the other side of it.Buildings obscure the view looking from the hill side.If it was more on the compound would have helped... I'd love to know where Brian saw it recently, it was at Toton a matter of weeks later after his sighting...

I was at Toton I meant...

Sorry, made a slight error as I was looking at that rusty ballast wagon! Yes, spotted it now and in an area which normally has locos parked in front of.... still tough blocked by that building too, but I call upon Brian for his recent observation!

There is a more recent drone shot here from Jan 2020:

and it is not in the same spot now.

Some other Toton views (and other depots) well worth a look on this Flickr page.

Brian probably had official access to the depot with work.

Ahh brilliant cheers Ben! Yes, I thought that might be the case tbh, he gets around a lot!

  • 13 September 2020 - Brian Stanway

Yes spent four hours at Toton yesterday walking around between trains. 13094 steps....LOL.

  • 13 September 2020 - Brian Stanway

It's in what i think they call the training compound south of the Depot and well hidden.

  • 13 September 2020 - Brian Stanway

Greg sorry i missed your April comments.

  • 14 September 2020 - Greg Hartle

Hi Brian, thanks for the important updates.Gonna be a tough one to view off the bank then if it's not at the depot end of the Training Compound..
