This van is now stored outside at the Locomotion Museum at Shildon and looking slightly worse for it.

I've never seen a van like this before, does anyone know what was 'special' about it or its original use ? did it run in passenger trains/cary parcels or something else altogether ??

They've put it outside! I wonder if it's worth discussing a loan with them...

Not aware anything special about it. Just a plain old NER no 7002 bogie stores van built 1907 according to Vintage Carriages Trust. I think a similar van is at Beamish Museum. I would suspect it was used in fitted faster goods workings rather than full blown passenger coach workings

It is a ex NER Stores Van used with others of similar designs in specials trains supplying oil lamps etc to remote stations upto the end of the 1930's presumably used as a storage van thereafter

Should be at the NYMR by now. Their LSWR Lowmac is going to Shildon in return.
