Now - I've perhaps made a bit of a mistake here with the number! I believe the story goes like this - the fish van (as it was when it had a body) was numbered into the IU series as 041312 before being renumbered back to 975961. After this it regained another IU series number - 041969. So this photo should probably be labelled with this number but you get the idea!

Another shot of this interesting van with its convoluted number history! It was numbered into the IU series as 041312 before being renumbered back to 975961 as seen here. After this it regained another IU series number - 041969.

It moved from Swanage Railway to Old Radnor 4/06. Body is now removed. U/f to be used under GWR coach body.

This has since left the Swanage Railway, and is now an underframe at Old Radnor with a view to having the body of GWR 12 mounted on it in due course.

Another shot of the van who's underframe is now in the care of Roger at Old Radnor...

So I wasn't aware until today when I cross-checked with VCT that this underframe is now at Kirkby Stephen and in an advanced state of restoration when I saw it last week.

Very interesting development if this has now arrived at Kirkby Stephen. Certainly not present when I visited on 20th July. In fact it was the subject of discussion whilst I was visiting. As a result the following was sent to the RHRP which hasn't yet appeared as updates.

"As recently as April 2019 Departmentals is showing BR 87249 as still being at Blakemere. Sometime that summer / autumn information emerged, not sure whether first on RHRP or elsewhere, that BR 87249 had moved to Kirkby Stephen where it was to be used under NER 2051 - note not 2015 which is obviously a transposition of digits. I included the information in Amendment sheet 145 so had become aware by the end of November 2019. However, following my visit to Kirkby Stephen last week my suspicion is that BR 87249 is actually still at Blakemere - perhaps someone can confirm if this is correct or otherwise. I was told at Kirkby Stephen that they had no knowledge what so ever of BR 87249 having been or intended to be matched with NER 2051 or coming to Kirkby Stephen.

NER 2051 is currently still a grounded body at Kirkby Stephen as shown in the 2021 RHRP picture. However, next to it is the wooden chassis from GER Saloon 8 I was told that this chassis would now be used for NER 2051 and was shown some of the new and acquired components that would be used to reinstate the running gear. The use of the underframe of LNER 70687 for GER Saloon 8 is again the plan at Embsay and I was told good progress has being made with that project.

It is now my suspicion that in 2019 BR 87249 had been confused with LMS 40284 which arrived at Kirkby Stephen during 2019 from Ash Parva. It no longer being the intention that this would be used for the body of L&Y 12 which was also at Ash Parva until 2019. No vehicles remain at Ash Parva as a result of these departures.

LMS 40284 is now being prepared at Kirkby Stephen for use with NER 131"

Ok thanks Peter. I've just looked at my photo and I think you're probably right as it is a 6 wheel underframe. I'm afraid I have forgotten what I was told about it as it was a very quick tour! I will send the photo. I've deleted my sighting and amended note.
