The body of this vehicle was acquired from Eastleigh works during the 1990's, according to the owner who states that the numbers 2219 were visible faintly on the bodywork - nothing visible now though, apart from the letters IU.

The former number of this van is given as 504037 making it a diagram D1897 built in 1935 but this should have two section corrugated ends the three sections did not appear until after 1940. This body looks like a diagram D2039 the door is definitely from that design, any chance the former number is not correct?

M504037 is confirmed as being built in 1935. Condemned on the SR region in July 1964 it is confirmed as entering internal user stock the same month. While the I/U number cannot be confirmed the corrugated ends may have simply been replaced at some point during it's life would be my guess.

I have one photograph of a Diagram D1897 van body (not internal user though), that I took in Carmarthenshire in 2002. The vehicle was carrying the number M 505411 and it has three part steel corrugated ends.
