  If I remember correctly, this vehicle had a rather precarious existance in the late 80s. I think this vehicle was despatched to Booths for scrap at least twice around 1989, only to be returned to Tinsley on both occasions.

  I think that it was sent to Booth's yard by mistake (with other stock) so was returned to Tinsley yard when the mistake was noticed - a very lucky survivor!

  Having spent most of the afternoon rumaging around in the garage, I have come across a copy of RAIL 106 which tells the saga of this vehicle.

  In 1988 B R decided to try and clear a bag log of redundant vehicles and contracted Booths to take 250 vehicles which were not included in the usual tender process. Although supposedly efforts were made to weed out vehicles of interest, 45036 slipped through the net and in December 1988 was moved from York Up Yard to Booths via Tinsley with other vehicles. When B R were notified that this vehicle was of interest, it was returned to Tinsley after about a week in Booths Yard.

  45036 then was included in a tender and was secured by the Llangollen Railway. However in June 1989 it was once again consigned to Booths in error. On this occasion, when this was discovered after a few days it was apparently the only survivor of the batch it was delivered with remaining intact so was very fortunate to survive. It was then sent back to Tinsley again.

  However Tinsley at the time was being used as a forwarding point for scrap vehicles and 45036 was returned to Booths in error again in July 1989. It was quickly returned to Tinsley and according to the article, B R Management stepped in and ensured it was placed in the Speedlink sidings away from the other withdrawn stock to avoid any further embarrasment pending movement to Llangollen.

  Given the picture is dated September 1990 does anyone know when it was finally moved to Llangollen?

  45036 was about to be moved off the railway for restoration about October time, but due to various issues the sale fell through, one of the many reasons was that the coach was robbed of its bearings when it was at booths or such a place, and is therefore not exactly easily moveable, other than between the C&PR headshunt and the loading bay. The coach would also require asbestos removal prior to it being moved, and if anyone is interested in buying the coach, leave a posting on here and I'll detail the asbestos issues with all these saloons to them. The roof on this saloon has had some work done on it in the past, but all the work in the roof would be required to be done again prior to it be declared fit for service. The interior fittings for the vehicle are mainly missing, but there are the odd one or two still left. The vehicle also has a severe about of rot and woodworm in places....there are better saloons out there!!

  I also dont have any sightings between Tinsley 1990 and C&PRR in 2006 so any other sightings would be appreciated to complete the picture. VCT suggests it never got to Llangollen and went straight to Chinnor in 1990.
